On July 27th 2021, Iran-Tajikistan Virtual Forum was held in a collaboration between the Tehran Chamber of Commerce and Iran Virtual Expo, which focused on exploring Iran-Tajikistan trade cooperation opportunities.
Iran-Tajikistan cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, and services
Mohammad Taghi Saberi, the Iranian ambassador to Tajikistan said that the amount of transactions between Iran and Tajikistan is around $ 300 million, which can be increased significantly by solving banking problems and using the transit capacity of the two countries.
He explained that Iran has the access to the transport routes such as the Persian Gulf and Chabahar which play key roles in the commercial and security arrangements. In addition, Iran has the great potential to cooperate with Tajikistan in the fields of agriculture, industry, services, etc.
Zohidi Nizomiddin Shamsiddinzoda, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan- Tehran talked about the importance of strengthening the Iran-Tajikistan trade relations according to the reduction in the trading volume over the past years. Furthermore, he suggested the establishment of joint ventures as a solution to increase the level of economic and trade relations.
Setting up of the Iranian banks’ branches in Tajikistan
Seyedeh Fatemeh Moghimi, the Board Member of TCCIMA and President of Iran Business Women Association considered the cultural, social, economic, and historical similarities as the common denominators between the two countries. She also talked about the potentials for investment and trading in the fields such as agriculture, food, and medicine and emphasized the importance of setting up Iranian banks in Tajikistan.
Introducing Iranian products in the Tajikistan Fairs
Jumakhonzoda Jamshed Jurakhon, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan announced that in October 2021, an exclusive exhibition of Iranian goods and services is going to be held in Tajikistan. And Iranian businessmen can introduce their companies and products in this exhibition through the Tehran Chamber of Commerce or the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan. He strongly believed that this exhibition will contribute to the private sector development and foreign investment.
During the final panel discussion on the topic of boosting bilateral cooperation between the Iranian and Tajik counterparts, the audience asked their questions and receive replies from the panelists.
In conclusion, the Iran-Tajikistan B2B Forum was held to enhance the economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries. It was a successful event as speakers introduced the trade opportunities and encouraged the audience to cooperate with their counterparts.
